National Minimum Wage 2025: Updated Rates for South Africa

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) was adjusted with effect from 1 March 2025. The Department of Employment and Labour publishes the updated rates annually.

What This Means for Employers

  • Check every employee's hourly rate against the new minimum.
  • Update payslips and employment contracts where necessary.
  • Non-compliance can result in penalties from the CCMA or Department of Labour.

Calculating Minimum Monthly Salary

For a full-time employee working 45 hours per week: 45h × 52w ÷ 12 = approximately 195 hours per month. Minimum monthly = 195 × R28.79 = R5,614.05.
